The FIFA '06 anthem rocks. May Herbert Gronemeyer live forever. And Amada and Mar. (whoever they are) One question though - Where is the link between Shakira feat. Wyclef Jean and FIFA??? Neither of them are German and Hips Don't Lie has nothing whatsoever to do with football. However one notices that there is a "FIFA World Cup Mix" by that name. *shakes head*
Lalita has a PERSIAN CAT!!!!! I BLOODY WELL WANT!!!!
ahem. right. moving on.
So. here's the real reason why this uppie is titled what its titled. A man was arrested 54 years ago at the age of 23 for a petty crime. (seemed to be in the eastern states somewhere) He was never given a trial. He spent 54 years in jail when he could have gotten off with maybe a few months. or even a few years...?
Here's the best part - not only was he stuck in jail for God-knows-how-long, he was also in the mental asylum for 10 years. Now he doesn't even know why he was arrested.
He has been released. Now.
He lives with his niece (who looks as ancient as him) and some other relations. She says she's just glad she's finally met him.
The statistics are just amazing. 300+"undertrials" in mumbai's jails who've been waiting for over 10 years. 11,100 in Tihar jail of which 410 are women.
(when someone gives you prison statistics you don't immediately think of women too, do you?)
Oh i'm only celebrating because, like the NGO's, i feel that that man's release is a good thing. Most people probably die in there.
celebrate the da-a-a-a-y, the da-a-a-a-a-y, the da-a-a--a-a-a--a-a-ay..

The Himalayas
[Please substitute "Omnibus" with "Treasury for Children". Your inconvenience is regretted]
One wields one's pen once more. (one also wonders how one spells wields) And one remembers that one's Camlin Ink Pen needs cleaning if it is to remain one's squishy.
One is busy writing a stern letter to Animal Planet about reruns and tapes from the ancient period (please refrain from mentioning to them that i devour the shows just the same)
I have been reading The Ruskin Bond Minibus. Not as good as the Omnibus. But then the Omnibus is mostly fiction. (Not just fiction - but fiction interspersed with truth which is so real that you can't tell teh difference)
The Omnibus gives you a peek into Ruskin Bond's life. (Okay so peek is a mild word) At times in the middle of teh book i felt a little scornful towards him (apologies sir) But its those things that make him human.
Just as he says - he writes down his observations. He leaves the conclusions to you. He gives such perfectly unbiased view points on a matter that its like listening to two really good lawyers. He's also sweet, loves animals and loves nature. How much better can a person get? :)
Now i really wish to make a trip to Mussourie just to say hello to him.
I still have to go through half the book. Cause its HUGE. But well worth it.
One puts one's pen down.
Finished the letter to animal planet. Looking forward to reply *snort* as if they're gonna send me one.
Looking forward to zee HPANA meet. Mumbai rules. There's 4 of us mainly - Raghavendra, Nancy/Nisha and Ravi. There was a girl in Navi Mumbai and i talked to her a lot but i can't remember her name!! Well she's disappeared. Hope she can make it if and when we meet.
Sleepy time.
